Mulligan Stew was an educational program sponsored by the 4-H Club. It's a nutritional information show starring Wilbur, an unmarried man who cooks a lot and hangs out with a bunch of excitable kids. Every episode some kind of problem arises involving cooking or vitamins or nutrition, and every episode Wilbur and the kids save the day by intoning their magic formula "4-4-3-2".
As you can see this is one terrible comic. The artwork is sketchy and unattractive, the script is almost nonexistent, and the dialog is, well, "far out". Note the "frog" in the lower right corner. It's called photo reference, guys.
Part of the adventures of the Mulligan gang involves battling the Flim-Flam Man, a sleazy hippy who tries to get people hooked on fad diets. Obviously the Flim-Flam Man was defeated in the early 70s, because nobody believes in fad diets any more, right? Right? Want some low-carb beer with your low-carb pizza?
Wilbur returns from outer space with a monkey and the entire Earth rings with the mighty sound of thousands of voices raised in triumphant song. 4-4-3-2 IS YOUR ONLY CHOICE. YOU WILL NOT RESIST 4-4-3-2. I LOVE 4-4-3-2.
