Look, we aren't prone to making sweeping, inflammatory statements that condemn entire classes of people. So we are not and would never say that the only good cop is a dead cop. What we WILL say is that there is definitely ONE good dead cop, and that dead cop's name is Sergeant Spook, the ghost policeman!
So obviously when you think of spectral policemen rising from the tomb, combining their police skills with their ghostly spook powers, you're imagining this will come in handy when creating fast-paced stories concerning the fight against crime. But not here. Here's some dinosaurs.
When you die you don't go to heaven or hell, you go to Ghost Town! It's a town where ghosts of all ages, races, creeds, colors and orientations live together in peace and democracy and happiness and harmony. Except they don't live. They are dead. They are ghosts. Which begs the question, what the hell are they all so afraid of here? They're dead already! I'm afraid of that haircut, is what I'm afraid of. It's not 1650 anymore, buddy.
George TOLD you people he was DONE being President and here you made him President again. President of a town! Is that even a thing? President of a town of ghosts frightened by some noises! Serves you right, George.
When you think of trappers, explorers and mountain men, there were probably a few that were better at it than Daniel Boone. But none of their ghosts wanted to spend eternity wearing that homemade deerhide outfit and the coonskin cap. So Dan'l Boone it is! Also, he probably actually met George Washington in real life, so there's that.
Be careful on those treacherous passes, because you might fall and die. Except you are ghosts. Of course, losing your ghost footing would get in the way of Daniel Boone using all his wilderness knowledge gained during a lifetime of frontier tracking to ask "gosh I wonder what that noise is?"
I suppose after you die your ghost wears whatever you spent the most time wearing in life, hence the police uniform and the buckskins our heroes are sporting. My guess is we'll be seeing a lot of sweat pants when our current generation winds up in Ghost Town.
Wow Daniel Boone, did it take ALL of your amazing wilderness knowledge to come up with this bit of animal tracking wisdom?
Hey it's Manny the Mammoth from the popular Ice Age series of animated films, here to crush ghost policemen under his massive hooves. Fight the power, Manny!
Why, it must be the pre-historic age they're in, the ghost pre-historic age, where the spirits of all the uncounted billions and billions of animals that have lived and died throughout the three hundred and sixty million years of vertebrate life on Earth now reside. I'd make noise too if I was that crowded!
Here Sergeant Spook seems kind of wistfully hoping to run into some cave men, perhaps to finally answer the question, are there cave men in heaven?
Daniel Boone is a great woodsman AND a great offensive lineman.
You can have Sergeant Spook's ghost gun when you pry it out of Sergeant Spook's cold dead ghost fingers!
Ghosts have to hide from monsters? Is this what we have to look forward to? I mean, we hide from monsters already!
Look, Spook, look. Run, Spook, run.
The Brontosaurus was a popular dinosaur until scientists decided it wasn't really a dinosaur, and then later, scientists decided it was a dinosaur after all. Now this thing right here? Nobody knows what THIS is.
The drool, the teeth, that guileless wide-eyed expression, it's all why you shouldn't use your dog for dinosaur reference.
He's one ghost who would like for it to be known that the kind of ghost stories that he likes aren't these sorts of stories and he doesn't like... to have it known, it, or something. Well, maybe he should have thought of that before he became a ghost!
Here in the Golden Age of Comics we're still figuring out the visual language of graphic storytelling, and things are still a little primitive and unfocused. Which is why we get one panel where a character is following, slipping, hitting, moving, and falling but not crying out, all at once.
Can YOU find the hidden ghost caveman eyes in this picture? Won't Sergeant Spook be happy when he finds out there really are ghost cavemen? Or will he just start blasting away with his ghost gun? Could go either way, really.
Daniel Boone a man. Yes a big man. He was brave, he was fearless, and he really wasn't going to spend a whole lot of time looking for anyone who gets lost in the Ghost Jungle. What has and/or will happen to our ghost heroes in their quest to make sense of a tremendously confusing afterlife? We hate to leave you with a case of blue bolts, but it'll have to wait until the next issue!
