Are you a reclusive loner who spends a lot of time alone in an unfurnished room, sitting on a filthy, uncovered mattress? Has everyone in your life distanced themselves from you in direct response to your behaviour, which is both annoying and deeply offputting? Do you find yourself looking at the plethora of entertainment available to you in bookstores, theatres, television and the internet and think "but where's MY story? Where is the art for people like me?" Then brother, have I got a comic book for you! And please go stand downwind, over there.

If you're an adult with the mind of a maladjusted 12 year old who's been caught playing with matches more than once, Super Spectacular Comics wants YOU!

Well, before we rush to judgement, let's read the blurb on the inside front cover, which all self-published comics seem to contain. Most of those inside-front-cover-blurbs are variations on the same 2 themes: Either they express a wish to become as big as Marvel and DC, or, like this comic, they scoff at the popular comics being sold on the stand and posit their own creation as a more "genuine" alternative.

They don't usually talk about spiritual attunement and universal love immediately behind a cover of a punk proudly holding up a dead baby, but I'm glad Stephen here has found an original spin to put on the proceedings. I'm not even sure what to say about the part about spirit guides and aliens but I'm not sure they'd be on board with all this edgelord gobbledygook. But maybe it pays off in the first story!

Or maybe not. Well, but maybe there's some funny twist to the story of the poorly-drawn Indiana Jones parody and his hilariously racist sidekick.

Well, it's not looking good. I mean the artwork, it doesn't look good at all.

Long story short, Idaho Charlie kills a bunch of people then releases an evil genie. He also rapes and kills a woman, but I decided not to scan that one in because that seems a bridge too far and this is supposed to be a humour site.

Finally Charlie gets his comeuppance when he tries to take over a military base with the evil genie but it turns out it was all a trick! So there was a twist! I mean besides the surprise twist that it turned out the guy drawing this DOES own a ruler. He doesn't know what to do with it, but he sure does own it. Now if only someone would give him a T square.

Well, it looks like the protagonist of the next story is a little more pleasant, at least. A little boy in a cult. Sure hope those townie rednecks don't come into their cult compound and brutally murder everyone.

Yep, brutal murder, including somehow shooting someone in half so their intestines are hanging out.

Finally the rednecks find the young narrator, the last survivor! Wonder if we'll get another twist ending?

Fear not, the little boy inexplicably turns into a demon and eats all the rednecks. Crisis averted! Another happy ending in Mind Warp funnies!

Next up is more like a traditional EC-style horror story, if Graham Ingels had severe CTE maybe.

Nice house, but are you worried about your table being on fire?

I think that's fire.

Finally a comic book that blows the lid off the real trouble in this world - wigmakers. But only makers of very, very specific types of wigs.

Now let's see what little "Easter eggs" we can find on the bookshelf... hmm... "weapons"... "occult"... "kill"... mmmhmm... "Jew"... alright then.

OK, let's cut to the chase... he cuts off the top of the canvasser's head and makes a wig out of it. It's dumb but of all the stories it's the one that reads the most like an actual story and not the notebook doodles of a kid that's going to get sent to the school psychiatrist for the rest of the term.

Speaking of, it looks like he filled up the rest of the book with a minicomic he drew with a friend, which of course is a Batman parody, because if you never draw a Batman parody you can't even really call yourself a cartoonist. Hey, I'm just impressed he had a friend!

Oh, there's one more little adventure before the end of the comic, written in German for verisimilitude I guess. I'm cutting off the final row of panels, because that's the part where Hitler sucks off the Pope. A very succinct yet comprehensive and nuanced dissertation on the Vatican's relationship with Nazi Germany!

The inside back cover gives us a subscription ad that makes sure to complain about "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" which is sorta deserved because if it wasn't for the success of TMNT, every wetbrain with access to a printer wouldn't have gotten the idea to publish their own black and white comics in the misguided hopes of hitting it big like Eastman and Laird did.

And yes, I did blur some crudely-drawn boobs. I left all the "hilarious" racist stuff though!

aaaaand finally the back cover, what I assume is a self-portrait atop a pile of dead babies with a cryptic poem that I assume is meant to make people look at it and go "oh, he's not an immature edgelord, he's actually mentally unwell". I don't think that's really the case, but on the other hand, por que no los dos?

Usually I don't have a problem with juvenile humour, in fact I think it can be hilarious, but the utter charmlessness of this comic just makes it all a chore to get through.
